Hey! Welcome back to Super New Saturdays! So, I’ll say this again for those of you who missed the first installment in my Jurassic World post. These posts are designed to be short and sweet. There are a million other websites you can visit for a full on analysis of a new movie. I just intend to tell y’all what I did or didn’t like, why, and encourage you to go see for yourself. Most importantly, however, I just want to encourage you to get out and go see a movie, whatever it may be because a theater is a wonderful place.
Insidious: Chapter 3 was… Insidious: Chapter 3. Let me explain. I’ve never been too huge of a fan of these films just because they always seemed flimsy and/or just not very cool to me. I did enjoy the first one up until the end which completely ruined it for me. The second one was fairly corny in its own right and a whole lot cornier than the first. The only shining thing I can really comment on from the first two is Rose Byrne who I thought was great in both. Chapter 3 however is a prequel. Most prequels are very dumb. This one, however, really wasn’t all that dumb. There were veeerrryy dumb things about it but as a whole, it wasn’t really all that bad. On par with the first in my book. I had goosebumps the entire time so that’s gotta count for something right?
What really did it for me, very surprisingly, was the main actress, Stefanie Scott, who I’ve never seen in anything else nor ever heard of before. I thought between her and Lin Shaye, reprising her role as Elise Rainier, that they really carried the movie the entire time. Every single one of the secondary characters teetered on the line between horribly unnecessary/poorly written and bearable; mostly the former.
So… yeah. What more can I say? It’s the third installment of a mildly okay series. The craziest moments for me was one scare that had nothing to do with the supernatural world and, as always, the title sequence score. That shit is TERRIFYING.
So, if you wanna live up to your completist nature and check out Insidious: Chapter 3, you can do so right now! It may be playing a little while longer but with films like Inside Out! and Jurassic World still reigning strong, it might get pulled pretty soon so act fast. Come back tomorrow for the second installment of Something Special Sundays where I’ll be feeding my Spielberg kick a little more with one of my all time favorites, Schindler’s List. Thanks!
